Reyna's Art Gallery & Café is a working artist's gallery in the heart of San Ignacio, Belize, founded by Cuban-born painter Fernando Reyna and his partner Janet Reyna.
The House
The gallery occupies a historic two-story wooden building on West Street. The street level holds a small entrance gallery — the first space visitors encounter. A staircase at the back of the building leads upstairs, where the main gallery opens up, with the café occupying the front of the upper floor overlooking the street.
Fernando's studio is on site, behind the gallery. The result is a space where art is not only displayed but actively made — visitors often find Fernando at work on a new canvas.
The Artist
Fernando Reyna is a Cuban-born portraitist who has made San Ignacio his home. He works in oils and acrylics at large scale — most canvases stand four feet tall or larger. His body of work spans a remarkable range: an extensive Queen Elizabeth II portrait series, Garifuna and Caribbean cultural figures, musicians including Bob Marley, Maya archaeological subjects, religious imagery, and experimental work drawing on Caribbean and surrealist traditions.
He is prolific. The studio is always full of canvases in progress.
The Café
The café side of Reyna's is built around Fernando's handmade fruit wines, produced from family recipes and professionally bottled. Alongside the wines, the bar serves signature cocktails — including the Blue Hole Margarita — local beer, fresh juices and rum punch from glass dispensers, Cuban-influenced drinks, and ice cream.
The walls of the café carry vintage Cuban graphics from Habana — Lydia Cabrera cigar labels, La Lupe imagery, Hemingway. Fernando's heritage is part of the room.
A Community Space
Reyna's hosts rotating exhibitions and group invitationals, including ongoing collaborations with Belizean artists across Cayo and beyond. The space is a destination for visitors to Belize and a hub for the local arts community.
